How to make payment fast and consumer-centric?

In order to increase conversion rates and customer loyalty, a main issue for merchants is to design the payment process consumer-friendly and straightforward.
Imagine a one-click way to redirect a consumer to a payment page. To facilitate the payment process, the merchant may pre-fill this payment page's input fields with order data such as consumer name/e-mail, ordered/recommended items, shipping address, (total) amount. The consumer may check out with one single click and has to enter only payment details (e.g. credit card number).

There are manifold ways to provide the consumer with easy to go payment:

  • Sending link (URL) by e-mail, SMS, skype, social media, …
  • Scannable QR-code from poster, flyer, …

Clicking the link or scanning the QR code, the consumer is forwarded directly to the payment page. This is a convenient way for

  • Digital invoicing
  • Curated shopping (prefilled shopping basket with purchase recommendations that may be modified by the consumer)
  • Topping up prepaid credit
  • Recurring payments
  • Processing partial orders
  • Collecting donations
  • Rescheduling payments
  • Rate pay reminders

This feature provides direct and fast payment. It focuses on quick sales by high usability.

Solution

  1. Create a payment page
    The payment page can be optimized for smartphone, tablet or desktop.
    It has to provide input fields for payment information and a button to proceed to checkout that connects to Wirecard Checkout Page or Wirecard Checkout Seamless. Both page content and style should make merchant information and shopping basket contents visible at a glance.
  2. Define order data to prefill the payment page input fields such as
    order number
    invoice number
    ordered/recommended items
    consumer name
    consumer e-mail
    shipping address
    shipping cost
    amount per item
    total amount
    preferred payment method

    The more fields are prefilled, the easier and faster the consumer may check out.
  3. Create a reference value assigned to order data.
    The reference value is part of the link (URL, QR code) offered to the consumer. To avoid manipulation, never send order data in plain text. Create a unique reference value that corresponds to order data, e.g. B2748591C98A47 is assigned to order nr. 10204, consumer John Doe, ordered item Solar Smart Phone Charger á €22.99, no shipping cost, total amount €22.99.
  4. Create a link (URL, QR code) that redirects the consumer to your payment page.
    Include the reference value. If possible, address the consumer personally. The link should also contain merchant information.
  5. Send the link to the consumer:
    via e-mail
    via SMS (e.g. to add credit)
    as post/comment in social media
    as QR code in print media
  6. Consumer clicks link/scans QR code and is redirected to the payment page.
    Input fields are prefilled with order data defined in reference value.
    Payment process is ready-to-go: Consumer enters missing data and clicks Proceed to checkout. Consumer is redirected to Wirecard Checkout Page or Wirecard Checkout Seamless.

In order to keep the payment process fast, we recommend not to use 3-D Secure, even if Wirecard provides for it.

Requirements

As outlined in the section above, you have to build a payment page that connects to Wirecard Checkout Page or Wirecard Checkout Seamless, create a reference value, create a link and make this link accessible to the consumer(s).
